The special infra-red coating (IRC) on the outside of the bulb reflects the heat back to the filament,
so the heat remains inside the lamp.
This means that less energy has to be supplied from outside to bring the filament up to its operating temperature.
Luminous efficacy is increased as a result, and further improv-ed by the xenon gas filling.
